The Rolf Benz VERO Comfort Sofa

The only things I need to buy in my apartment are the draperies and a new sofa. You can’t imagine how time consuming that is (unless you had to do it, too) with all those models up there, if you’re a picky customer like me. But things may change today, because I’ve just seen the Rolf Benz VERO sofas and at least a couple of them would blend in perfectly with my living-room. From what I see these guys have the experience to build long-lasting modern sofas that offer a highly comfortable seating experience and first-class quality. Secondly most important for a sofa, after the design, is how practical it is. Well the new Rolf Benz VERO was designed for everyday use, and that says it all. It’s an 116cm wide and 170cm long sofa, with a luxurious touch and if the leather is not for me, the textile Rolf Benz VERO sofa is exactly what I need at the moment. Just need to see if these guys ship overseas. Will keep you posted. - via Shearydi

Scala del Cielo Italian Glass Shelves

Scala del cielo translates into English as "scale of heaven". That is an apt description of these beautiful Italian glass shelves from Tonelli of Italy. I really like the simplicity of the shelves, the fact that they are petite, and that they gradually climb upwards. I find them more so a decorative item than that of a storage solution. Measurements: 120 x 24 x 118 cm; thickness: 12 mm; weight: 26 kg. Available: Here.

5 Tips for Fooling the Eye and Making a Room Look Bigger

“In a small space, everything counts.” - That’s the main idea behind this article, and how we can make a small room look bigger, with some clever tricks. Small rooms can feel confining and uncomfortable. Luckily we can utilize certain design concepts that fool the eye and make our rooms seem much bigger and spacious. Some solutions for small spaces, that can make a room in your home look larger are color techniques, furniture arranging, and lighting considerations can give the look of space. These are a few of the topics that we are gonna to present in this article. By the way … Maybe you want to sell your house and there is one thing you can do to make the house easier to sell. This thing is make the house look bigger. So let’s begin … Some time ago I’ve wrote an article where I’ve discussed about room colors and their influence on our moods. Today you’ll learn how to use colors rto make your room look bigger. Cream colors and icy blues are just a few of the best color combinations that can open up a tiny room into a bigger living area. It is all about illusion. Light colors make your room look bigger and brighter. Light and brightly colored walls are more reflective making a space feel open and airy, which will help to maximize the effect created by natural light. While dark colors absorb light, making the room look smaller. For optimum effect, select soft tones of blues and greens, and always remeber that brighter rooms look bigger and more inviting. You can paint your walls light and use dark colors for the border and trim. Paint your wall trim and moldings a lighter color than your walls. When you paint your moldings light, the wall appears further back, making your living room appear bigger. Sometimes furniture can take a lot of space. To avoid that here are some useful tips : Lighting is a key element in opening up a space. Let the light into the room too. Buy letting the natural light flow into the room, you will be surprised at how this will open up the room and make it look larger. If you do not have a lot of natural light, you can add some lighting features to the room to make it look bigger. You will be amazed at how this small addition can make a big difference. If you have access to natural light, make full use of it. Bring it into your home through windows. Full height glass panes work best. Having a large picture window can make a room seem bigger because a barrier between visitor and outside view has been removed. Instead of seeing a dimension-defining wall, visitors see an expansive view of the outdoors. Make sure window coverings are sheer, or are pulled back, to bring more light in. If the view is bad use hanging plants and potted flowers near windows. Lamps will bring in colour and focus attention. Keep your room tidy and organized. There’s nothing that makes a small space feel cramped more than having too much stuff. With things neatly arranged and out of sight, the space that is in view will feel orderly and open. A cluttered room equals a smaller room. Don’t cove your walls with a lot of pictures. One large painting works better than a group of small paintings. If there’s too much going on, all clamoring for attention, it can make the room feel busy and crowded. So, when decorating a small room, create a focal point, one area or feature that will draw the eye. In the dining room, the focal point will probably be the table. In the bedroom, it’ll probably be the bed. Make that focal point the star of the room. Arrange the furniture so that focus is drawn to that area, and keep the décor in the rest of the room to a minimum ( limit the number of accessories ). Keep the floor as clear as possible. This is one of the most important ways of maintaining a sense of spaciousness. One more tip - Take out large rugs to create the illusion of more floor space. Mirrors can make your room look larger. Use a focal point and angle your Mirrors towards it, which will give the illusion of depth. The Mirrors also reflect both natural and artificial light to make a room brighter during the day and night. They bounce light deep into the room, making it appear larger. This is especially effective with near a window so the outdoors can be reflected. Mirrors on the walls and glass tabletops will make it seem like there’s a more open flow. You can also use Mirrored cabinet doors to make spaces feel large and uncluttered.

Kitchen Design

This beautiful and smart kitchen design is made by Fevzi Karaman a designer from Turkey, Ankara who made the kitchen cupboard “silverline” which won a prize at a contest student. The colors of the kitchen pechues with a green apple that gives a sacred Deco touches to the kitchen. The modular furniture is very advanced with a work plan to be drawn into a table. This kitchen design is very clever, and when is not used as a kitchen it can be a sleek piece of furniture. I hope that one day I’ll see this kitchen design in practice.

Classic Pendant Lamptags: lighting, livingroom

Iconic fashion returns to contemporary design. This lamp was an instant classic the moment it was introduce to the public in Italy, 1964. To this day it maintains its retro design, but with a lasting and sophisticated appeal. It was designed by Bruno Munari for Danese Milano, and since its nascent stages it has been a hit in both personal homes and museums of design. Bring some groovy simplicity to your livingroom with this pendant lamp from Nova68 for only $399. You can combine it with two other sizes and a Terra ground lamp if you want to encapsulate the 60s era within a single room of your house. Popularity: 18% [?]

Mid Century Find: 1960s Interior Crafts Occasional Table

It's great to sprinkle in some of the past along with cool designs from the present. The picture here shows an Occasional table by Interior Crafts manufactured in the 1960s. The table features a small round glass top atop a white wooden pedestal in symmetrical wave shapes. The wave cutouts remind me of shapes we still see today in contemporary design since a "curve" is such a departure from the typical box-like 90 degree angle. A piece such as this would run $400-$1,000 from a mid century furniture store. Measurements: 36" w x 29.5" h.

Malou Couch by Montis Furniture Offers Nothing but Shape

Sometimes I prefer an overall shape to speak for the design of a piece. The Malou Couch is just such a design piece where the clean lines of the shape define its existence. There is nothing to waste here. The shape and lines are precise and methodical leaving nothing else to the imagination. You can see here it paired with a lime green ottoman creating quite the contrast in colors. Malou was designed by Gijs Papavoine. Via.

lyaeus chairtags: miscellanea, outdoors

LIKE A NAUTILUS SHELL the Lyaeus Chair surrounds the user in a cocoon-like embrace; this amounts to more of a self-enclosed room than a seat. Bentwood slats are spaced to allow limited sunlight to filter through the carapace while maintaining privacy. The earth-toned design is reflective of Lyaeus’ intended usage: as an outdoor chair ideally situated by swank poolsides or on Beverly Hills: Posh / Fabric Sofa Sets rooftop d furniture Popularity: 4% [?]

Ashley Furniture Reclining Sofas: Durapebble in Khaki

I am a big fan of Durapebble Khaki Reclining Sofas like you see in the picture. Ashley Furniture is usually known for its traditional furniture style. This design inspiration for this piece draws upon the roots of Italian sofa manufacturers such as Natuzzi. Modern Italian design has a way of making a piece appear "softer" and a bit smaller which allows for it to not become the dominant piece in a Living Room. Another great element of the Durapebble is that it gives you options about accent pieces. Since it is more transitional, you have the chance to mix and match modern and traditional pieces along with this sofa. Available: here.
